The Spasticity clinic is a specialist assessment and treatment clinic that can offer you additional strategies to manage severe muscle stiffness (spasticity) or abnormal limb positioning (dystonia) following stroke, or as a result of other neurological conditions such as multiple sclerosis, Parkinson’s or Cervical Dystonia. As well as interfering with the way you move and go about daily activities, spasticity can also cause significant discomfort, place you at risk of secondary complications and reduce the ability to maintain good hygiene and care of places like palms, underarms and behind the knees.
Some of the strategies that may be recommended in the clinic are: Botox injections to address focal spasticity, prescription of medication to reduce tone overall and review of therapy program to specifically address the spasticity or dystonia.
The Spasticity Clinic is led by Dr Hannah Shin in conjunction with the rest of our rehab team. Successful management is always derived from a multi-disciplinary approach.
Referral from your GP is required for to see Dr Shin and to attend this clinic.
