98 years young last week, and Alf Fitzsimmons is a shining example of what a bit of effort, a positive outlook and continuous exercise can do. Alf attends Advance Rehab Centre twice a week for a falls and balance circuit and hydrotherapy class. He is always the first to arrive and the last to leave each gym session and always has an encouraging word for other gym members-even those half his age who are struggling to keep up. Alf was one of the first to join our exclusive hundred’s club (for those who can do 100 sit to stands in a session) and is on the way to creating his own 200’s club!!
Alf is also joined in the circuit by Alfie (Alf Hey), who is younger and only nudging 97….they both don’t mind a natter and we call it the “Tale of Two Alfs” when they re-collect war stories after their exercise sessions.
Advance Rehab Centre has over 60 clients older than 95 who come to the centre in St Leonards for a range of services including falls and balance classes and hydrotherapy classes, or who are seen at home by a physiotherapy and occupational therapy team. The team would like to congratulate each and every one of these clients, and many more, for the privilege of working with them all and hearing their inspiring stories and seeing their zest for life!
