INTENSIVE STROKE PROGRAM- Congratulations to Philip Strong

Congratulations to Philip Strong who recently completed our intensive stroke program with fantastic results. Two years after his stroke, Philip was finding it hard to manage independently at home and required significant assistance for dressing, showering and getting around. Philip’s son heard about our program through the Stroke Recovery Association and made the trip up from Canberra to find out if we could help his father. Philip took to therapy with 110 percent every session and won our hearts with his enthusiasm and cheerful manner. Philip received up to 3 hours of therapy on most days of the week for a month. His program consisted of individual neurological physiotherapy and speech pathology sessions, fabrication of a customised carbon-fibre AFO, botox to his tibialis posterior, supervised circuit classes, independent gym sessions, neurological acupuncture and a medication review.

Philip’s main goal was to improve his mobility and speech. On assessment his 10 metre walk test, which is a standard physio mobility tool, was 2 mins 43 seconds with a stick. At discharge, Philip walked the same track in 23 seconds! Philip’s rehabilitation program was a very rewarding process for all of us and made me feel very proud of Philip’s strength and the skill and dedication of our therapy team working with him. Well done to everyone involved and keep up the good work Philip, this is just the start of your success!
We are hoping over the coming months to collect enough standardised data from all of our programs to present at the Stroke Recovery Association Stroke Conference in September next year so keep watching this space.
